| | “Mudslinger” Hit it Hot | | | The sound was up at the Hawkesbury street festival. The Mudslinger, a band formed of young talented students attending the Eastern Ontario Education and Training Centre played for the first time in front of a crowd. The excited audience was pleasantly charmed by the outstanding onstage performances. It took these hard working individuals weeks to comprehend stage presence, presentation, performance and personal style and it all came finally together on their onstage demonstration. "These kids worked their hearts out and deserve every minute of fame," said Richard Pronovost dedicated instructor and the band’s greatest fan. This activity gave those who participated a complete sense of teamwork, delivering quality performances and understanding the striking outcome of basic hard work At first glance, it seemed like you were at a typical onstage performance with the band doing their gig and the audience clapping, dancing and doing whatever audiences do. However, this time if you looked closely you saw a young virtuous band. Each member has a specific character with his/her distinct and unique presence. To further excite the crowd, there were two other youths which are also classmates of the band, showed great signs of talent by performing acrobatic movements consisting of flips, gyrates and other contortion moves which were enough to make one’s head spin. The quality onstage equipment, which belongs to the school, further enhanced the young adult’s ability and gave them that extra sense of reality. What they experienced on that plywood surface is what is truly happening. The wiring, amplifiers, instruments, lighting, sound system and much more is all there for them to feel like they are truly engaged and belong. Nothing has been re-invented here. Hard work gives super results. The performance by this young and dynamic band just goes to prove that goals are attainable. You may require some help along the way but they are feasible. Two thumbs up. You can click on this link to see the band in action.

| | Provincial Leadership Training Course | | | | Congratulation to Geneviève Parent of the Curran campus and to Valérie Séguin of the Cornwall campus for having participated in the provincial leadership training course held in Lake Couchiching from September 15th to 18th, 2007. With the support and participation of the twelve Ontario French-language schools boards, the Ministry of Education and Training of Ontario and the Ministry of Canadian Heritage, the Fédération de la jeunesse franco-ontarienne (FESFO) is proud to have instituted a province-wide course developed by a team of professionals on the cutting-edge of leadership training. (The team was composed of a workgroup consisting of teachers, administrators and FESFO members.) The team proposed a method which retained the successful elements of the FESFO leadership training course while integrating certain new essentials based on the latest academic realities. This course was conceived in a manner which permitted the students to concretely experience the theories which were presented. The participants developed various techniques of group work which will equip them with the means to efficiently involve themselves in their school and community environments. The Franco-Ontarian course in leadership training is a unique occasion and an unforgettable experience. The students who attended this training had the chance to participate in various workshops, discussions and exercises where they learned to communicate effectively, to create groups confidently and to lead groups expertly. It is these young role models who, through their commitment and involvement, contribute to positive change in our world. | | |
